It Can't Happen Here By: Sinclair Lewis Historical/ Political fiction (again, no idea) 2.5
View the political campaign of Senator "Buzz" Windrip and his rise to power. It didn't take much to kill Democracy in America. This book actually had promise. It was an interesting idea, but once again Sinclair decided it was better to bore you with obscure details then whiz through plot. The characters are remotely interesting, though not the important part of the story (which doesn't make a lot of sense now, but when you read it you'll get what I mean). All I could think of while reading this was a line from Star Wars Ep. III: "So this is how Liberty dies? To thunderous applause." The reason this book gets such a low rating is because it was about 100 pages too long. Lewis could have easily cut out unimportant details and saved this book, pulling it up to about a 3 or a 4, but he chose not to. If you have the patience to get through the first eight chapters of this book I'd say go ahead and read it. It's an interesting idea, just executed in the wrong fashion.
