Lucas looked out the car window clutching his teddybear Booey.
"It's gonna be all right Lucas. You're going to a nice place." said the man in the suit. He was named Mr. Aimsley and said he worked for the government.
Lucas remembered their first meeting.
"AND GOD SAID THOU SHALL CAST A DEMON DOWN!" screamed Preacher Emmett Holmes as he laid his hands on Lucas's forehead.
"CAST OUT TH'DEMON N' THA' NAME OF THA' LORD!" came the shout from his Grams. She kept holding him down even as he resisted and she kept slapping him across the face. Then the room spun and blackness engulfed him. Five year old Lucas Kale was out cold.
Lucas awoke to the sight of Mr. Aimsley standing over him.
"It's gonna be all right son," said Mr. Aimsley reassuringly. He picked up Lucas and carried him out to the car. Lucas looked back the church. Preacher Emmett was crouched in the corner. Cuts were laid across his face. YOU LET THE DEMON GO! YOU LET THE DEMON GO!" Preacher Emmett kept screaming as armed security surrounded him.
Lucas sat in Mr. Aimsley car scared but felt safe after Mr. Aimsely handed him his teddybear Booey. It was only thing that was left of his mother after she went away. Mr. Aimsley shut the car door. Suddenly Grams began pounding the car window furiously.
"MARK MA' WORDS! THA' LORD KNOWS YAR A DEMON LUCAS! YA'LL NEVER ESCAPE HIS WRATH!"she kept screaming her fists bruised and bloody from pounding on the window. Lucas cringed back in horror as the armed security dragged her away.
"It's okay Lucas. No one can hurt you now. We're going to a place where there are special kids like you," said Mr. Aimsley. Lucas looked down at Booey.
"Mr. Aimsley, Grams says ah' was bad! Am ah' bad?" sputtered Lucas tears welling in his eyes.
Mr. Aimsley turned around in the front seat. "No Lucas, you're not bad. You're just different." He reassured the boy by patting him on the head.
A flight from Budford, South Carolina to New York City several days later. Lucas now saw the green lush scenery of the Xavier school. Mr. Aimsley stopped the car to the front entrance. "Okay Lucas, we're here."
Dressed in dirty corduroy overalls and sandals, Lucas entered the front entrance and waited. He was terrified what awaited him and clutched Booey for further reassurance.
